CLARA, CA April 2, 2001
CMI at NAB 2001 is debuting their PID Detective,
which is a monitoring device used to constantly monitor up
to four PIDs (Packet Identifiers) in a digital broadcast facility.
Overseeing PIDs is crucial because they comprise the channels
in a digital environment and need to comply with standard
specifications as defined by the standard for "Packet Identifier"
that is embedded in a SMPTE 310M signal.
The PID Detective is designed to be a simple, easy to use,
system for detecting problems with the broadcast transmission
stream. The PID Detective has three significant features that
make it stand out:
1.
The best feature of the PID Detective is that it is fully
customizable. The main option here is the ability to tell
the PID Detective what the minimum and maximum of level
transfer rates should be. In the event that the transferring
rates go above the maximum transfer rate or below the minimum
transfer rate, the PID DetectiveÔ alerts users through instantaneous
e-mail.
2. Another significant feature is its System Log.
This log records all significant events right on the PID
Detective's hard drive. It records the day, date, time,
event, and potential reason(s) for any changes. This gives
important historical information to operators in order to
help them make well-informed decisions regarding the data
transfer rates.
3. Finally,
the optional remote data display (PID Watcher) is available
for monitoring the data rates of up to 250+ PID Detectives
in field locations. The PID Watcher accepts the data and
posts the data to a web page on the Watcher immediately
as it is received. The Watcher web page can then be viewed
over PID Detective the Internet using a standard browser
and will show the current PID rate status for all station
monitors that are reporting to it. The PID Watcher also
has the ability to be in a remote location and still have
the ability to monitor 250+ PID Detectives. Les Zoltan,
Founder and CEO states, "The very best part of this new
product is that customers receive extremely high performance
at an extremely low cost."
The base price for the PID Detective begins at $6,500.

About CMI
CMI is a distributor and manufacturer of a wide range of high
quality niche products for broadcasting equipment manufacturers.
With $5 million in sales for the 1999-year, over $8 million
in sales for 2000, with projections to sell over $10 million
for the official first year of the new millennium, we feel
that we have found a formula for success. We prefer long-term
relationships to short term gains. That approach fits well
within our designed-in elements and integration in major manufactures’
products. In fact, design-ins and repeat and business are
the majority of our business. Further, CMI is a Silicon Valley
leader in niche markets. We believe what is worth doing, is
worth doing right…the first time.
