CMI Introduces MPEG Shuttle - a Superior Video Transmission Solution

LAS VEGAS, NV April 1999

CMI will introduce their improved "turnkey" MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 transmissions systems, the MPEG Shuttle Series at NAB99 Booth S4677 in Las Vegas, April 19-22, 1999. The MPEG Shuttle sends video over multiple T1/E1 lines at lower costs than ATM. The real-time video modem is one of the newest products in CMI' expanding line of Broadcast Products.

In this innovative design, CMI chose to integrate commercial MPEG encoders to their own special high speed communication cards with TCP/IP, T1/T3, E1/E3 or RS422 interfaces for a lower cost solution. The MPEG Shuttle is based on open "Wintel" NT technology. Their unique blend of hardware and software also provides the ability to continuously monitor operations with a custom GUI front end that displays all types of line error conditions and statistics in real-time. Monitoring and controlling can be performed locally and/or remotely allowing users to always have immediate information and access.

Laszlo Zoltan, VP at CMI noted that "We designed the MPEG Shuttle for a previously ignored niche in the market. Those who demand broadcast- quality MPEG-2, but have wanted the ability to transmit over multiple T1 lines rather than ATM."

Their great price/performance ratio is achieved by building on widely available components from the leading industry suppliers. Competitors offer proprietary systems that are not upgradeable as user needs and technologies evolve. That factor further restricts their customers to only one supplier's resources. Since the MPEG Shuttle System incorporates Windows NT as their operating system, it is further able to adapt as new devices or standards gain importance. With the MPEG Shuttle, users can consistently incorporate the finest LAN/WAN interface from leading suppliers and no longer be locked in with a single firm's vision and engineering limitations.

The MPEG Shuttle can also multiplex MPEG-2 over 3 or more T1/E1 lines and transfer MPEG Layer II or III audio files through satellite modems. The MPEG Shuttle is designed to be easily interfaced with a range of DVB-compatible products from multiple suppliers by installing DVB Master cards from CMI.

Ideal uses are: Studio to Remote Broadcast Transmitter, Digital Video (V.35) to Satellite Modems, Commercial Insertion, Front-End or Backhaul Broadcast, Medical Monitoring, Distance Learning Classrooms, Movie "Dailies" to Head Office, Electronic News Gathering (ENG), Presentations, VideoConferences and Security/Remote Monitoring.
